TOP 5 PARENTING STRUGGLES

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. ― Charles R. Swindoll

THE PROBLEM:
Being a parent is one of the most difficult things we can and will do. Our children rely on us, learn by us, and yes often succeed or struggle because of us. Which is why you can see one of the most heavily searched parenting questions on the internet is ‘Did I screw up my child?” Well, I’m here to say. I am going to let you know we all feel that way in some respects but you do not need to live there in the place of worry, doubt or frustration overdoing a good or bad job of parenting.

“This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ Matthew 6:9-13

So today I want to inspire us… offer parents some rest, peace, and direction done God’s way!

THE WORD: We’re going to break down a few important tips that will help us to shake off shame.

  • ANGER: (IF THEY DON’T LISTEN)
-Holy Spirit: FRUIT SELF CONTROL, Teach and use Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
-New Self: PROCLAIM THIS Ephesians 4:22-24 to put off your old self,[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
-Teach young to listen– if to late humbly ask for grace. FORGIVENESS RESTORES THE STANDARD Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
  • DOUBT: (SECOND GUESS YOU AND WORRY ABOUT THEM) Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
-Sets in when we don’t know. BUT GOD does… go to HIM, not others.
-First time, what a manual – raise up your child…in all your ways.
-Doubt is Okay if we have faith…which means acting in faith… confidently isn’t faith at all
  • FEAR: (WORST CASE SCENARIO) When your mind gets away from you. Philippians 4:6-9 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
  • CONTROL: (SECURITY)
-Yes/no: Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. Matthew 5:37
    -Count: yes breathe but pray…literally.
  • EXPECTATIONS: (UNDO PRESSURE)
-Unconditional… value doesn’t lie in performance but rather the character of God. Make God’s character be the expectation. 2 Timothy 3:16 Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
-True to you and them; gifts and talents Proverbs 22:29 Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

THE GIFT: FREE WILL- what will it be?

  • PEACE/JOY/FORBEARANCE/KINDNESS/GENTLENESS AND SELF CONTROL OR ANGER
  • CONFIDENCE OR DOUBT
  • FREE AND CALM OR ANXIOUS
  • THRIVING ENVIRONMENT OR LACK OF CONTROL
  • SUCCESS AND ACHIEVING OR DISAPPOINTED AND CENSORED

CALL IN’S

ERIC AND JADE: We are so happy to have adopted our first child and we are both pretty scared. We are doing fine and have lots of help but it’s such a huge responsibility and neither of us had very good upbringings. We follow everything you do, Bible in a year, your talk show and social pages but do you have one main message we can live by?
TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD Prov 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.

GENERATIONAL SIN:

Numbers 14:18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

CHERYL AND JOHN: Teenager in trouble, friends, drugs, lying. PRIORITY-Matthew, leave heard to save one.

REMEMBER…Jesus looked at them & said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Math 19:26
