Day and Night Give Thanks

I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 2 Timothy 1:3 NIV

This gal caught my eye with her complete and thoughtful look of appreciation. I can imagine her watching her child play ball or performing on the field, and her simply thanking God.  Giving thanks at all times is hard for several reasons.

First, we simply get so busy, making it hard to stop long enough to notice our love and appreciation. Then, it takes great effect to remember our gratefulness shouldn’t stop here with the world and our possessions. Without our life, without God, and especially without Christ, this gratitude would mean nothing. This is why we need to lift up our gratitude, acknowledge our blessings as gifts, and remember to give God the glory. When we do this there is little room for unworthy thoughts.

I sometimes have people tell me how wrong it seems to give God thanks always, like during hardships when they often feel forgotten or uncared for. I want to remind us before I get too far, that God DOES NOT make bad things happen to us. We so often have to battle hardships as a result of the world and its effects. When we are able to recognize this, then thanking God even under trial makes more sense. Because then what we are giving thanks for is for Him holding us up when we simply want to crumble, for Him carrying us as we do crumble, or for Him lifting us up after we have fallen.

Sure it’s easier to give thanks when times are sweet- and it is so right. But there is so much power given to those who can find the faith to give thanks, day and night- when life is going good and under trial.

Much Love my friends,
